Submittal of Working Papers for 4

Licensing Review Group-II Issues W

I am enclosing, for NRC staff review, Volume IV of the LRG-II Position Papers covering 11 of the 56 LRG-II issues.

Previous submittals (November 20, 1981; December 3, 1981; and January 25, 1982) covered a total of 38 of the issues.

Thus to date, we have responded to 49 of the 56 issues.

In addition, we have provided a revision to one issue, 1-HFS, on January 25, and enclosed herein is a revision to issue 4-CPB, in response to your February 26, 1982 letter.

Consistent with our agreed-upon schedule, we will provide responses for the remaining seven issues, as well as a revision to 8-RSB and 1-RSB (in response to your February 26 letter) by May 10, 1982.

LRG-II believes that the submittals I have described above have been used by the staff for the Clinton SER and are being used for the Perry SER and Clinton SSER.

Your February 26 letter was helpful to us in that it identified three issues where additional information is required or would be useful.

However, we would appreciate it if you could confirm for us that the other position papers submitted in Volumes I, II, and III close out the the remainder of those 38 issues.

In the event that some of these issues remain outstanding at this time, please let us know as soon as possible so we can file revisions at the time of the May 10 submittal.

It is our goal, consistent with the LRG-II schedule, as well as the Clinton and Perry schedules, to close out the review of all 56 common issues as soon after the May 10 date as possible.

e Mr. James R. Miller U-0434 If it would be useful to have an NRR/LRG-II meeting to discuss any outstanding matters relating to the first 49 issues, perhaps some time in late March or early April would be convenient.

Please let me know and the Group will make every effort to be available in that time period.

As we have done in the past, the endorsement and application of the Volume IV Position Papers to LRG-II plant dockets will be made by letters from each of the participating utilities.

l Sincerely, i

-l D. L. Holtzscher Chairman LRG-II Working Group DLH/lt Attachments:
