Subject:
Safety Injection Actuation Signal - Redundant Logic Relays and Power Supplies
Dear Sir:
Reference (b) transmitted a description of a design change to provide redundant logic relays and redundant power supplies which is currently being reviewed by ONRR. The preliminary design change provided earlier is being revised slightly to provide total channel independence. This revision which is illustrated in the attached drawings (ll550-ESK-7J and 7K), has been discussed with the ONRR reviewer. Prior to declaring the system operable, we will bench test the new relays, perform a continuity check of new wires, and test the modified system from the sensor to and through the matrix relays up to the blocked 86 device. Maine Yankee also commits to administrative action to ensure that should the number of operable sensors for SIA from either high containment pressure or low pressurizer pressure fall to the minimum required by Technical Specification Table 3.9-2, accomodation of the failure of an additional sensor will occur without adversely affecting the SIAS. This will be accomplished by placing at least one inoperable sensor in a condition that produces a trip sigr.a l. Within 30 days of receipt of NRC approval of the SIAS design modification, Maine Yankee will submit a proposed change to the technical kQ specification to make the availability of this enhanced protection a limiting condition for operation. This course of action has been discussed with and agreed to by Maine Yankee's ONRR Project Manager. g noy 8203160328 ^820308 T' WW PDR ADOCK 05000309 6M S P PDR c,,
