DISCREPANCY IN SHIPMENTS OF SNM TO NUCLEAR h

~~

ENGINEERING C0., BEATTY, NEVADA y

Wf In October 1981, Ms. Kitty Dragonette of your staff requested from the NMMSS a listing of all shipments of wastes to the Nuclear Engineering Co., Beatty, Nevada, for the period January 1,1968, through December 31, 1976.

In sumary, our response showed that there were no shipments to the Beatty site during the years 1968,1969, and 1976. A total of 557,176.10 grams of Uranium, Plutonium, Pu-238 and U-233 was shipped to the site during the years 1970 through 1975, as stated in the January 11, 1982, letter from John Vaden, State of Nevada, to J. J. Scoville, U. S. Ecology, Inc. (formerly Nuclear Engineering Co.).

During a January 22, 1982, telephone conversation with Mr. Ken Waller, U. S.

Ecology, and a January 25, 1982, meeting with you and ris. Dragonette, it was learned that the interest in the above mentioned request was the' U-235 quanti-ties, and not element weight as we provided in response to the October 1981 request.

Enclosed is a revised response showing isotope weights in grams.

These figures are lower than those mentioned in Mr. Vaden's January 11 letter.
