Interim Report of 10CFR50.55(e) Item on Defective GE - I&SE Welds. (#31)

Dear Mr. Keppler:

This additional interim report on the defective GE - I&SE Welds problem, has been prepared to provide you with the current status of this problem.

This item was reported to Mr. J. Smith of NRC-Region III by Detroit Edison's Mr. II.A. Walker, Supervisor-Construction Quality Assurance on July 30, 1981.

At that time, it was brought to our attention that additional defects had been noted in reviewing radiographs of other previously accepted GE - I&SE wolds. Detroit Edison, therefore, reopened the subject 50.55(e) item (orig-inally reported on October 24, 1980) in order to address these additional problems. The welds were jet pump diffuser to adapter welds. These welds have been documen'xd on Deviation Disposition Requests, and investigation is continuing.

Another report on this item, either interim or final, is scheduled to be sent to you on or before June 30, 1982. If you have questions concerning this matter, please contact Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor-Construction Quality Assurance.

Very truly yours,

[If I
