Interim Report of 10CFR50.55(e) Item on Control Rod Driv'cL}CRD))g
Subject:
IIousing Assenblics (#51) g dgp
Dear Mr. Keppler:
On January 26, 1982, Detroit Edison's Mr. II.A. Walker, Supervisor-Con-struction Quality Assurance, telephoned Mr. J. Konklin of NRC-Region III, to report on a problem with Control Rod Drive (CRD) llousing Assemblies at the Fermi 2 site.
Detroit Edison had noted chips or burrs on the inside of the CRD housing ascomblies. These burrs were fastened to the metal underneath the shoulder on the inside of the CRD assemblies, and appeared to be a lack of ccuplete machining of the inside surface. These irregularities did not affect the i
mating of the CRD thcImal sleeve assembly which fits inside in contact with this surface. General Electric indicated that these irregularities do not appear to be nonconformances. These burrs or chips have been removed and the surfaces..111 be inspected to insure that they meet surface finish re-quirements after the removal.
Another report on this item, either interhn or final, is scheduled to be 1
sent to you on or before June 24, 1982. If you have questions concerning this matter, please contact Mr. II.A. Walker, Supervisor-Construction Quality Assurance.
Very truly yours, I
