REQUEST FOR AN ASSESSMENT OF THE POSSIBILITY OF NRC CONTRACT SUPPORT FOR NCRP EFFORTS In response to your menorandum of January 6,1982, we have reviewed the list
,/
of NCRP's scientific committees and their activities. NRR utilizes the publications and recommendations of the NCRP in implenenting and reviewing radiation protection programs at operating nuclear power facilities.
In addition, we use NCRP publications in estimating radionuclide transport in the envirorsnent and calculating doses to individuals and populations.
The activities of several of the current specific committees will or have provided information that is directly useful to us. Although there are presently no specific topics that we could fund directly, we strongly support the need for NCRP and its associated activities. Consequently, we are encouraging RES to continue awarding funds to NCRP to support general operations.
