Dear Mr. Haynes:

1 The purpose of this letter is to report to you the st atus of Bost on Edison's efforts to complete the prc.mpt public notification system for the Pilgrim NPS area, and to notify you that Bost on Edison now expects to be able to complete installation and test the system prior to February 26, 1982.

Several uncertainties have been resolved favorably during past weeks which ranke the February completion date achievable.

The Board of Selectraen in the Town of Duxbury has approved t he majority of pole site permits re-p quested, and is expected to act on the last two remaining applications on February 22, 1982.

On February 15, 1982, Boston Edison received a last shipment of 16 electronic control units from Federal Signal Corporation.

System Characteristics The system, when complete, will include 90 largc-scale rotating and omnidirectional electronic sirens.

t Sirens have been installed at /b sites.

Associated electronic centrol equiptent has been installed at 58 sites.

Electric service to recharge batteries has been provided at 34 sites, and 26 of these have been field tested.

The recent arrival of the balance of control equipment f rom Federal Signal should permit Bost on Ed3 son to complete installation prior to the test on Februa ry 26th.

Test ing Units are being fully checked out in the field following hook-up of electric service (to maintain battery charge).

A comprehensive test will be conducted on a town-by-town basis on the 26th of February.

State, local and Federal Emergency Managenent Agency personnel have been invited to observe and participate.
