This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. J. B. Kahle of
this of fice on January 11-15, 1982, of activities authorized by NRC License
Nos. SNM-778, CX-10 and R-47 for the Lynchburg Research Center and to the
discussion of our findings held with you and members of your staff at the
conclusion of the inspection.
Areas examined during the inspection and our findings are discussed in the
enclosed inspection report.
Within these areas, the inspection consisted of
selective examinations of procedures and representative records, interviews with
personnel, and observations by the inspector.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations or deviations were disclosed.
We have examined actions you have taken with regard to previously identified
enforcement matters. These are discussed in the enclosed inspection report.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a), a copy of this letter and the enclosure (s)
will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room unless you notify this office,
by telephonc, within ten days of the date of this letter and submit written
application to withhold information contained therein within thirty days of the
date of this letter. Such application must be consistent with the requirements
of 2.790(b)(1).
In our letter to you of October 22, 1981, the report of the inspection conducted
by Mr. J. B. Kahle of this office on September 28 - October 2, 1981 was incor-

rectly identified as Report Nos. 70-824/81-02, 50-99/81-03 and 50-13/81-03. The
correct identification is 70-824/81-05, 50-13/81-03 and 50-99/81-03.

SUMMARY
Inspection on January 11-15, 1982
Areas Inspected
This routine, unannounced inspection involved 28 inspector-hours on site in the
areas of followup on previous identified enforc'ement matters, IE notice, gaseous
effluents, liquid effluents, solid waste disposal, packaging of radioactive
materials and transportation of radioactive materials.
Results
Of the seven areas inspected, no violations or deviations were identified.
