Dear Mr. Denton:
g 5
Mr. Robert L.
Tedesco, in a letter to Mr.
M.
S.
Pollock, dated August 31, 1981, responded to our request for guidance in achieving acceptable resolution to the minimum separation criteria for electrical cables and raceways.
This letter pro-vides four (4) options, any of which can be used to disposition the instances where field conditions produced deviations from the separation criteria as set forth in Section 3.12 of the FSAR.
We have implemented a program applying the NRC's options to each of the deviations.
This program will be completed by Fuel Load and will be available on site for review by the I&E Resident Inspector.
We believe, however, that there is need for some clarification on options 3 and 4:
3.
- Our interpretation is that a 1 hour1.157407e-5 days
2.777778e-4 hours
1.653439e-6 weeks
3.805e-7 months
minimum rated fire barrier or wrapping will meet this requirement.
- 4. - In discussions with your staff we believe the follow-ing revised wording for option 4 is what was meant since the real issue is loss of function for the deviating cables:
" Justify the deficiency by performin'g a specific analysis of the deviating cables or raceways where the minimum separation is not met to demon-strate that a failure of the deviating cables (for each identified deviation) will not preclude safe plant shutdown, including consideration of an accident."
Since the cable for Shoreham is flame retardant there should be no problem with propagation as such.
