FOR RELEASE:
Don Beeth Immediately 713-229-7305 Houston Lighting & Power Company, project manager for the South Texas Project, Monday named Ebasco Services, Inc. to replace Brown &
Root as constructor of the Matagorda County nuclear plant but emphasized that the decision is subject to satisfactory conclusion of contract negotiations.
Don D. Jordan, president of HL&P, revealed the decision on behalf of the co-owners following a meeting with the other STP partners--
the city of Austin, City Public Service of San Antonio and Central Power and Light Company.
"After careful consideration of the construction skills and resources available to expedite the successful completion of the South Texas Project, Ebasco Services Inc. has been selected," Jordan said.
"That decision has been endorsed unanimously by the other project owners."
"It should be stressed that the selection is contingent on satisfactory conclusion of negotiations," Jordan continued.
Jordan had praise for all the selection finalists--Daniel Construction Company, Bechtel Power Corporation and Ebasco.
"All three firms offer outstanding capabilities. We would feel com-fortable with any one of them on the job."
