Final Report of 10CFR50.55(e) Item on 5/8" Parker /Hannifin Stain-less Steel Tees (#50)

$$-M L

Dear Mr. Keppler:

On January 12, 1982, Detroit Edison's Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor-Construc-tion Quality Assurance, telephoned Mr. J. Neisler of NRC-Region III, to report '

on a problem with 5/8" Parker /Hannifin stainless steel tees at the Fermi 2 site.

Detroit Edison-had received fifty 5/8" O.D. 3000 #SW I.D. #SA182T316 (heat 215F)~

stainless steel tecs and had noted that three of these had cracks open.up during welding. Verification was made illat all three were frca the same shipnent and the same heat. Cracking indications were found'on a Dye Penetrant check of new tees frcm this heat which.were still in the warehouse. No additional shipnents frca this -heat were received.

Parker /Hannifin has been notified of this problem. An investigation was made to determine where installed toes are located. Approximately twenty of the fifty tees have been installed.

Detroit Edison Engineering has dispositioned a DDR for the removal of installed-tecs from the lines, and the return of unused tees to the supplier frcm stock.

This action has been ccmpleted.

If you have questions concerning this matter, please contact Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor - Construction Quality Assurance.

Very truly' yours,

' DAW / HAW /cp cc:
