SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT OF LICENSE AMENDMENT APPLICATION FOR AUTHORIZATION TO MODIFY THE REQUIREMENTS FOR USE OF PERSONNEL DOSIMETERS REVIEWER:

Background
NBS now has six Materials Licenses issued by NRC for their nuclear activities.
The requirements for issuing personnel radiation dosimeters for external exposure under these licenses vary from one limited to a specific film badge supplier to that in combination with TLD for certain special requirements. By letter dated December 3,1981, the licensee requested authorization to modify the requirements for using personnel dosimeters under this license to be consistent with the requirements of other NBS licenses.
II. Radiation Safety The requested modification will result in identical requirements for issuing personnel dosimeters at NBS and is in compliance with the regulation specified in Section 20.202 of 10 CFR 20. No significant change to the radiation safety of the workers should result.
III. Inspector's Comments On January 18, 1982, this amendment application was discussed with tir. J. Roth of Region I, facility inspector. He foresaw no safety related problems with the licensee's application.

g57 JAN 2 51982 IV. Conclusion Based on the discussion above, I believe that the amendment can be granted without undue risk to the workers. Therefore, I recommend approval of the application for license amendment.
