SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF MEETING HELD ON JANUARY 7,1982 WITH NORTHEAST UTILITIES.(MILLSTONE 1 AND HADDAM NECK)

RE:

INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT As a result of the December 17, 1981, meeting held to discuss licensee performance regarding the Systematic Evaluation Program, Northeast Utilities met with the NRC staff on January 7,1982, to discuss the -

Integrated Assessment on Millstone 1 and Haddam Neck and the status of all topics for these plants. A list of attendees is attached.

During the morning session, the conduct of the Integrated Assessments on both plants was discussed.

Northeast Utilities proposed performing the Integrated Assessments on both plants with NRC staff assistance, A number of considerations relating to this concept were discussed such as time frame necessary to complete the Intearated Assessments, avail-ability of NRC staff to discuss individual SEP topics, availability of NRC staff at Northeast Utilities' facilities to assist in preparation of the Integrated Assessments, and use of NU's in-house PRA capability, The staff stated that the Integrated Assessment is not a PRA; however, PRA procedures should be viewed as a tool and could be used in specific i

instances to aYsist in conducting the Integrated Assessments.

Northeast Utilities agreed to submit to the staff by January 31, 1982, a letter containing a commitment and schedule for completion of licensee SARs and other outstanding issues on topics and a proposed method and schedule specifying how and when the licensee would perform an Integrated

+

Assessment on their plants, In the afternoon, each SEP topic was reviewed on both Millstone 1 and Haddam Neck. This assured mutual agreement of current topic status, 8202220599 820129
