Dear Members of the Appeal Board:
In a previous letter to you dated January 6,1982, I indicated that the itaff's review of the Licensee's HPI nozzle analysis (Item 6 of ALAB-655) was scheduled for completion by February 8,1982. The Staff's review to-date has uncovered a need for further information from the Licensee and such information has been requested. Accordingly, further analysis of HPI nozzle design thermal cycle limits will be required by the Licensee and the Staff review schedule of this matter will have to be extended. The development of a review schedule is still under consideration and we will submit an affidavit setting forth the status of the Staff analysis within the next two weeks.
In the interim, please note that the Staff still concludes that there is sufficient existing margin to the design thermal cycle limits on the HPI nozzles to permit continued plant operation pending completion of the Staff review. (See Padovin affidavit, dated January 5,1982, pp. 2-3)
