/.'fl HARTSVILLE NUCLEAR PLANT A - REPORTABLE DEFICIENCY - BETHLEHEM "? EEL COMPANY'S GALVANIZED A325 BOLTS - HTRD-50-518/81-28, -520/81-27 The subject deficiency was initially reported to NRC-0IE, Region II, Inspector P. A. Taylor on October 29, 1981 as NCR HTA HPP 8103.

Applicability to 10 CFR Part 21 was determined to be nonceportable as discussed with Inspector Taylor on November 5, 1981. Our first interim report was submitted on November 23, 1981. In accordance with paragraph 50.55(e) of 10 CFR Part 50, this letter constitutes our second interim report on the subject deficiency. EN DES has initiated testing of the Bethlehem galvanized A325 bolts at Singleton Materials Lab to determine mechanical properties and probable cause for the stripping mode of failure. We anticipate transmitting an additional report by March 31, 1982. If you have any questions, please call Jim Domer at FTS 858-2725.
