DETECTION OF CONTRABAND MATERIAL The licensee reported that two contractor employees were terminated for attempting to bring contraband items (an alcoholic beverage and a small quantity of marijuana) into the protected area on_ February 12, 1982, at approximately 7:40 a.m. and 9:40 a.m.,

respectively. The items were found by security guards during routine ingress searching at the gatehouse. The licensee had increased pat-down searches of contractor employees on February 11, 1982.

The licensee is currently in a refueling outage for Unit 3.

RIII's (Chicago) investigation of alleged drinking, drug use, and inadequate training involving security guards at Dresden continues. This Preliminary Notification is issued for information only and no further action by RIII is anticipated.

Thsre has been no known media interest concerning this event. Neither the licensee nor RIII plans to issue a news release at this time.

The State of Illinois has been notified.

RIII received notification of this matter by telephone from the Resident Inspector at 11:30 a.m. on February 12, 1982.
