Dear Mr. Miller,

'f b g Clinton Power Station Unit 1 Docket No. 50-461 Earlier you received a document dated January 13, 1982, con-cerning Illinois Power's response to Appendix C of the Control Room Design Review / Audit Report. We wish to make the following changes in the response to clear up questions you conveyed to us over the telephone.

1) In the main body of the document, the response on page 7, section C-8 #8 should read: " Evaluate and correct, if corrections cannot be made a justification will be provided."
2) In Attachment B, delete the last sentence in the first paragraph on page 1 under Response, and insert the following: " These particular inputs have been carefully ,

selected by a review team to provide all of the necessary l information to monitor the BOP and NSSS systems.

The l computer system has the capacity to include more inputs '

if decided they are necessary in the future."

3) In Attachment B, change the last paragraph on page 2 (response to findings dealing with computer alarm pro-cessing) to read: " Miscellaneous plant alarms occurring during normal operations are continuously printed out on a dedicated alarm typer rated at 60 words per minute. A second typer, atso rated at 60 words per minute, will be used as a backup should the alarm typer fail. This switchover occurs automatically and without loss of information. Like the line printers, all information is stored on magnetic tape for historical review.

? o Mr. James R. Miller February 9, 1982 Page 2 When an alarm occurs which initiates the sequence-of-events log, printing of the log information is automatically done on the high speed line printers, as is all of the logs, thereby eliminating the need for high speed alarm typers. Alarms may also be viewed on the CRT's as they occur and alarm groups may be printed out on the backup"typer or sent to a line printer upon operator request.

NOTE: The following items deal with the section of the response entitled." Computer Processing of Alarms."

4) Delete the second sentence in the second paragraph on page 4 and insert the following: "In a similar manner, the operator may depress the Alarm Page Reverse button on the keyboard to go back to the previous page."
5) On page 5, under the title Alarm Printing on Dedicated Typer, the sentence should read: "The design of the PMS provides for also printing the alarm messages as they occur on a dedicated typer (see page 2 under response to findings C.7-ll, C.7-12 and C.7-13)."
6) on page 7, under the title Sequence-of-Events Log, delete the first sentence and insert the following:

"Upon detection of a status change of any of the pre-selected sequential events contacts, the sequence-of-events log is initiated. The status changes are also routed to the annunciator panels in the control room where the corresponding annunciator is activated. The familiarity of the operators with these annunciators informs them that the sequence-of-events log has been initiated. As mentioned previously, the contacts have been carefully selected by a review team to be the important NSSS and BOP status changes and are thus easily recognized by the operators."

7) Insert the following after the second line on the top of page 8: "The information will be printed immediately on a line printer unless another job is in progress.

In that case, the log information will be printed immediately following the completion of the job in J
