/

On January 19-21, the NRC Project Management, Environmental Engineering and Site An& lysis staff met with Gulf States Utilities (GSU), its AE, Stone and Webster (S&W) and the Public at the River Bend site in St. Francisville, Louisiana for the purpose of observing various site geotechnic and hydro-logic features; and to have the GSU and S&W representatives answer environ-mental questions, previously submitted, by the NRC staff reviewers of the Applicant's Environmental Report (ER).

Enclosure (1) lists the NRC staff, GSU/S&W, other federal and State agency representatives, and members of the Public who participated in and/or attended the meetings held.

The Applicant conducted a tour of the construction site, as well as the on-and off-site geotechnic and hydrologic features for the NRC staff and other federal agency representatives in the morning of January 19.

In the afternoon of January 19, a session was held with GSU and S&W to respond to j

environmental questions raised by NRC.

GSU and S&W were fully prepared l

and responded in detail to all of the questions posed by NRC, which were l

forwarded to GSU by the NRC letter (Schwencer to Cahill) dated January 4, 1982. Some questions required access to documents and references cited in the ER, but not made available when the ER was submitted. Advance copies of these were provided to NRC after the question response session, and GSU l

agreed to furnish additional copies (as required by NRC) when fonnally responding to the NRC January 4th letter.

Members of the Public were invited to observe the question response session, and time was provided imediately after that session for the NRC staff to receive Public comments and concerns. Prior to listening their concerns, a brief explanation was provided by Mr. A. Schwencer about the OL review process.

The remainder of the week was provided for the NRC review staff to revisit site areas of individual interest, and to meet with other federal, State and local agency officials.
