Thank you for your letter of December 8,1981 expressing New Mexico's desire to obtain an amended agreement to regulate uranium mill tailings.

We also desire to negotiate such an agreement at the earliest practic-able date.
We have completed our review of the information furnished by New Mexico in support of the amended agreement and have identified several areas that warrant discussion with New Mexico officials. A tentative date for a meeting of our respective staffs has been set for early February. A letter was sent to Mr. Al Topp, Chief, Radiation Protection Bureau concerning the meeting and the topics to be discussed, g4 1.
We hope that these discussions will be fruitful.
