This letter is to inform :
an incident which I
s recently came,to my attention.
Although we believe this incident has no safety significance, we are bringing this incident to your attention pursuant to the tenets of full disclosure as articulated in Duke Power Company (William B.
McGuire Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2), ALAB-143, 6 AEC 623 4
(1973).
,In JanuaryMhB1, the maintenance crew conducting micrometer readings of tube dimensions in the new high-density storage racks painted small identifying characters l
on four of thel,new rackt in' order to document the racks' l
orientation during the microme,ter tests.
None of the four painted racks have been installed in the Dresden spent fuel l
' pools.

Commondealth Edison h s reviewed the composition" l
of'the paint.
Commonwealth Edison has also consulted with a metallurgist and the paint manufacturer.
Thel paint does not l

contain any materials considere'd-aggressive to Type 304 i
stainless steel in the spent fuel pool water environment.
