(b) MYAoC Letter to USNRC, dated March 6, 1981

Subject:

Fire Protection Exemption Clarification Schedule

Dear Sir:

This letter is written to inform your staff that Maine Yankee intends to clarify the March, 1981 exemption request, Reference (b). The need for this clarification became evident, for the first time, after discussion with members of the NRC staff on January 25, 1982. During this conversation, we were informed that our exemption request lacked sufficient justification for approval. As a result of further discussions, the staff concurred that clarification of the exemption reouest could enhance a final decision to approve the request.

In light of the above, Maine Yankee intends to provide further clarification by February 16, 1982.

Very truly yours, MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER COMPANY Sn John H. Garrity, Senior Director Nuclear Engineering and Licensing JHG/bjp 00
