Dear Mr. Davis:
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission published in the Federal Register on October 22, 1981, a final rule entitled "Protecti0n of Unclassified Safeguards Information". That rule amended regulations in 10CFR Parts 2, 50, 70 and 73 to require NRC licensees to protect unclassified safeguards information against unauthorized disclosure. Portions of that rule became effective on October 22, 1981, and the balance on January 20, 1982.
Kansas Gas and Electric Company for Wolf Creek Generating Station, Unit No. 1 hereby requests an extension in the effectiveness date of these regulations for our facility to October 22, 1982. The extension is necessary to allow for procurement of long lead time material and implementation of procedures and training after material receipt.
