50-260 50-296 By letter from D. G. Eisenhut to All BWR Licensees dated December 29, 1981 the NRC requested information regarding the applicability of the General Electric ODYN transient calculation code to the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant. Specifically, that letter requested that TVA evaluate the control red scram times at Browns Ferry to determine if they are bounded by the ODYN Option B scram time distribution. If such is the case, delay af ODYN analyses until the next refueling is a reasonable approach.
We have reviewed the control rod scram times recorded for Browns Ferry unit 2 and conclude that the scram times are bounded by the ODYN Option B scram time distribution. Browns Ferry unit 1 is presently operating based on the ODYN code calculated transients. Unit 3 is presently in a refueling outage and is expected to startup March 14, 1982, based on OYDN code transient calculations. Unit 2 is now operating based on REDY code with the shutdown for the next refuel outage projected for August 1, 1982. The next unit 2 cycle will be based on the ODYN code.
