This letter will close out the referenced potentially reportable deficiency initially identified to Mr. W. F. Christianson'of the NRC.

The deficiency, originally reported to the NRC on May 15, 1981 by General Atomic Co., under 10CFR21, involves Rockbestos series RSS-6-105 and RSS-6-110 coaxial cable. The center conductor may short out to the braided shield when exposed to continuous temperatures above 2300F.

It has been determined that the only area of the plant in which safety related systems may be exposed to such high continuous temperatures is inside the Primary Containment. An investigation has determined that no such cable has been installed in this area. To prevent possible inadvertent installation, all defective cable presently in the warehouse-has been tagged accordingly.

We feel that the Commission has already been adequately informed of this defect under 10CFR21 and that because no cable has been installed in the Containment, this item is not considered to be reportable under 10CFR50.55(c).
