T(a The Detroit Edison Company License No. 21-02335-03 ATTN: Robert V. Collins Radiation Safety Officer 2000 Second Avenue Detroit, MI 48226 Gentlemen:
Thank you for your letter dated December 1, 1981, informing us of the steps you have taken correct the noncompliance which we brought to your attention in our letter-dated November 12, 1981. We will examine these matters during a future inspection.
In answer to your comments on the recording of leak test results. We concur that leak test results were recorded as less than.005 microcuries when readings showed no significant increase over background. However, the inspector noted that no calibration r.wrce was available to allow conversion of counts per minute to disintegrations per minute. Upon further review he discovered that the assumption had been made that since the readings were low they must be less than.005 microcuries. We under-stand that as of December 1, 1981, a counting efficiency has been determined using a cesium-137 source.
Your cooperation with us is appreciated.
Sincerely, D. J.
