3)

Letter, DW Mazur, Supply System to FH Faulkenberry, NRC, Same Sabject, dated July 28, 1981.

In reference (2) the Supply System reported the existence of a reportable condition (10CFR50.55(e)) to the NRC. The concern related to errors in the measurement of core neutron flux during certain postulated acci-dents. In reference (3) we provided an interim report on this item.

The status of the resolution of this concern to date is as follows:

Status There are two potential resolutions to this concern.

They are: (1) l a hardware change providing an alternate measurement of core power, i

and (2) new analyses confirming the acceptability of the present design.

In Dece7,oer, Babcock & Wilcox completed their initial evaluations of the feasibility of both of these potential resolutions.

It appears that either method is feasible. Babcock & Wilcox is to make their i

formal recommendation as to the desired resolution in January 1982.
