'Ihey requested that SCE&G ideitify the Ibckbestos twinaxial cable
- that was installed within cmtainmmt in Class 1E applicatial.
01 July 13,1981, Mr. Virgil Brownlee of NIC Region II was notified of a potmtial significant deficietcy or substantial safety hazard cnicerning laboratory test failure of qualified Type 'IWinax Cable. 01 Atgust 12, 1991 an interim report or the above iten was seit to Mr. O'Reilly.
SCC &G idcntified the Ibckbestos 'IWinax cable that are 1E circuits and are located within the reactor building that could experielce an alvirmnuit with temperature above 230'F.
'Ihese cables are being replace 3 by qualified Brand Rex cables.
SCE&G is ideitifying the above item as a substantial safety hazard under 10CFR21 and the details of the safety hazard are described in the attached reporting form. 'Ihis is calsidered a final

Nature of Defect, Substantial Safety Hazard Created, and Evaluatial Rockl:estos Co. informed SCE&G that Rockbestos Twinax cable is qualified to the requirenants of TEEE - 383-1974, except that it is not qualifiel at tenperature e':ceeding 230 F for periods exceeding 30 secmds. SCE&G review of 1E cable showed the three 1E circuits in the reactor building used Rockbestos twinax cable. %ese cables annect the acoustic detectors which mmitor the three pressurizer safety valves 8010A, B & C.
In a IDCA mvirmmett the above three cables for the acoustic mmitor circuits could have beat lost.
