Dear Ms. Slattery:
The Gulf States Utilities Company has applied to the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Comission (NRC) for an operating license for its River Send Nuclear Power Plant, Stations 1 and ?, currently under construction and located at a site in West Feliciana Parish, 2 niles east of the Mississippi River and approxi nately 24 niles north-northwest of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The NRC is preparing an Environmental Statenent as part of its operating license review precedures, and will be considering environnental areas such as the inpact of the plant on terrestrial and aquatic resources (both State and federal),
as well as site hydrologic and geotechnic features such as rail / road enhanknents, the Mississippi River bankline and c'akeup water intake onbaynent, water channel structures (natural and artificial) in the vicinity of West Creek and the Grants Bayou and Alligator Dayou areas, and other rolovant site features.
The NRC staff conducting this review have scheduled a visit to the plant site tho week of January 18-22, l82 for the purpose of gathering information for preparation of the Environnental Statement. On January 19, beginning at 9:00 M1 a qeneral tour to observe various on-site and off-site features, such as those stated above, will be conducted by the applicant followed by a session during which specific environnental questions raised by the NRC Environ-rental Engineering and Site Analysis staff will be responded to by the applicant.
The renainder of the week (January 20-22) has been set aside to allow the meetings between the 4RC staff and federal, State and local acency representatives.
