The Gulf States 11tilities Company has applied to the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Connission (NRC) for an operating license for its River Bend Nuclear Power Plant, Stations 1 and 2, currently under construction and located at a site in West Feliciana Parish, 2 "ilos east of the flississippi River and approxi m.stely P4 niles north-northwest of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The NPC is nreparinn an Environ <' ental Statement as part of its operating license review proceduros, and will he considering environmental areas such as the inpact of the plant on torrestrial and aquatic resources (both State and federal),

as well as sita hydroloqic and geotechnic features such as rail / road enhankrents, the Mississippi River banklino and makeup water intake embayrent, water channel structures (natural and artificial) in the vicinity of West Creek and the Grants Bayon and Alligator Bayou areas, and other relevant site features.

The HRC staf f conducting this review have scheduled a visit to the plant site the week of January 18-22, 1982 for the purpose of gathering information for prenaration of the Environnental Statenent. On January 19, beginning at 9:00 Att a oeneral tour to observe various on-site and of f-site features, such as those statert above, will be conducted by the applicant followed by a session durino which specific environmental questions raised by the HRC Environ-rental Enqineering and Site Analysis staff will be responded to by the applicant.

The remainder of the week (January 20-22) has been set aside to allow the meetings between the NPC staff and federal, State and local agency representatives.

Confirming your telephone conversation with the Mr. John J.
