DOCKET NO. 50-358, CONSTRUCTION PERMIT CPPR-88, W.O. #57300, JOB E-5590, file no. NRC-8 Gentlemen:

This letter constitutes a final report concerning the potential deficiency of the subject valves as initially reported to the NRC Senior Resident Inspector under 10CFR50.55 (c) on April 6, 1981.

Initial observations indicated that the valve disc seating sur-faces were galling. The reason for this situation was thought to be a result of 1) dirt in the lines and/or dry operation during construction or 2) incompatible seat and disc material.

The galling condition was apparently caused by dirt in the lines.

The lines have been blown clean and the galling condition no longer exists; we, therefore, consider this m=tter resolved.

As a matter of further interest, it is worth noting that a machined stellite deposit has been placed on the disc surface of these valves. This was done by the manuf acturer as a cormnercial consideration to decrease wear and is independent of the original galling problem.

We trust this letter will fulfill the requirements of a final report under 10CFR50. 55 (e) .
