The route proposed in your December 7 and 17, 1981 letters is judged to neet j

the regulatory requirenents of 10 CFR 73.37 and accordingly is approved.

Please note that assuring highway safety is the responsibility of the licensee and carrier and our approval is not intended to provide relief in this regard. Furtherrore, the approval does not guarantee that there will be no local or state legisir' ion applicable to the route that restricts or l

prohibits the movement of radioactive material.

During seasonal periods when inclenent weather with accorspanying hazardous

(

road conditions can occur with short notice, the appropriate state police should be contacted with regard to road conditions before a shiprent cornences.

The initial arragenents with law enforcement agencies along the route, as required by 10 CFR 73.37(a)(2), have been cmpleted by the NRC staff.

Da ta relating to these arrangerents and a copy of the approved route are enciesed.

This information is to be incorporated into your shipr:ent plan and provided to your carrier along with instructions regarding its use.

Please note that the notification requircaents of 10 CFR 73.72 for each indi-vidual shipnent still apply.
