Post Office Box 999 JMar g D g Richland, Washington 99352 Dear Dr. Wogavn I have reviewed your monthly report for the Edgemont Cleanup Action (B-2217) for October,1981, and have the following comments:

1) You should continue to empha. size complebing all remaining full-engineering assessments at those properties which have been identified to date as requiring such full EAs.
2) As agreed to during our meeting here last month, please attempt to complete, weather permitting, at least 35 mini-engineering assessments as soon as possible. Then during your winter shutdown of field work in Edgemont, your staff may review such mini-EAs and attempt to draw conclusions correlating soil sample analysis or gamma radiation level results versus grab or long-term radon progeny measurements.
3) Your summary of actions taken to date to inform Edgemont property owners about the radiological evaluations was excellent. Also, as described under " Projected Work for Next Month," ycur letter to the remaining property owners where surveys have not been completed is acceptable and should be it gued as soon as possible. I also agree that if no written response is given to your last letter, that each owner should be contacted individually by telephone and, as a last resort, I shall request thet your staff make every attempt to make a personal contact with each property owner so that we may get a written document in each instance of the owner's refusal.

4)

For all those properties where the owner has refused the free radiological surveys, you are hereby requested to have your staff make a personal contact to convince the owner that these surveys are beneficial and should be completed. The outcome of these personal cor. tacts should also be documented, i
