Response to Item II.K.2.13 of NUREG-0737, " Thermal Mechanical Patort"

Dear Sir:

Reference (b) provided a response to Action Plan Item II.K.2.13 generic to CE plants. That response is hereby entered on the Maine Yankee docket by Ie ference.

Action Plan Item II.K.2.13 has evolved into a more general concern now referred to as " pressurized thermal shock". This concern has been the subject of NRC correspondence and reauests for information directed to Maine Yankee, references (c) and (d).

Pressurized thermal shock considerations relating to the scope of II.K.2.13 are discussed in the CE report.

This report constitutes Maine Yankee's response to Action Plan Item II.K.2.13, and also constitutes a partial response to the general pressurized thermal shock issue.

Additional information on the pressurized thermal shock issue will be submitted shortly under separate cover. This additimsi information may include clarification or discussion of the contv.ts of the CE report as it g

applies to Maine Yankee.
