Dear Mr. Jackson:
Thank you for providing me with a copy of the geologic and seismologic questions prepared by NRC as part of your review of the River Bend Station Final Safety Analysis Report. We are especially interested in the results of the remote sensing lineament analysis you have requested for the area wi+.hin at least a 5-mile radius of the River Bend Station (231.4).
If it is possible, we would like to compare the interpretation that will be submitted by Gulf Sta+.es Utilities with any analysis your staff will conduct using the duplicate photographs you required.
On page 2.5-96 of Gulf States Utilities Company's Final Safety Analysis Report they state that annual reports of ground-water usaoe are no longer necessary to monitor subsidence effects at River Bend Station. While we agree that present pumpage in the area poses no subsidence threat, we do feel that pumpage should be monitored. The presence of abundant supplies of fresh ground water could attract large industrial or municipal users to the area and any resultant major growth in ground-water use should be recorded.
Sincerely, LOUISIANA GE0 LOGICAL SURVEY d
