Thomas J. Nichnison Earth Sciences Branch, RES
SUBJECT:
" WEST VALLEY RESEARCH" REVIEW GROUP MEETING A special meeting of the " West Valley Research" Review Group will be held i
December 17, 1981 in Room 1133 Willste Building, Silver Spring,' Maryland at 9:00 a.m.
Technical ~ investigators from the USGS and NYSGS will make formal presentations on the proposed drilling program for Spring 1982.
You have already received a copy of the USGS's drilling specification package.
Please review it prior to the meeting and be prepared to ask questions on any concerns you may have.
Please contact me if you cannot attend the meeting. Attached are copies of the USGS and NYSGS monthly letter reports for October 1981.

landslide in September, 1981. A contour map of the slide area has been produced.
2.
The seismic and resistivity surveys of the North-Plateau have been completed by NYSGS field. personnel.
The traverse lines are shown on the attached map. The resistivity; data have been plotted (attached) and the seismic data is being analysed.
3.
The grain size analyses of samples obtained during the wide area sampling program have been completed and the data is included.
4.
Preparation of a contour map of the surface.of the till deposit on the North Plateau has been initiated.
5.
We met with M. Bergeren and W. Kappel of the Ithaca USGS October 20 to discuss the proposed drilling for the spring, 1982.
6.
Submitted-formal requests to the Research Contracts Branch.
for permission-to rent a tracked vehicle and a computer terminal for use in our investigations (copies attached)..
7.
Formulated a work plan (attached) for the winter, November 1981 through March-1982.
