Dear Mr. Romano:

$/

This letter is in response to your November 2,1981, request for ich and corroborating information on the rock orientation that was presen e during our meeting on June 18, 1981. A north-south schematic geologic cross section is attached along with a regional stratigraphic column (FSAR Figure 2.5-4).

The statement that the rock beneath the Limerick plant is stratigraphically lower than the rock at the quarry means that the former is older.

In other words, the quarry rock was fomed after the plant rock had been in place for a long time.

The attached schematic geologic section shows, in a general way, the physical relationship between the quarry rock and the site rock. The quarry is located at the surface outcrop of a diabase dike, which was injected through fractures that cut across the bedding. This is shown in greater detail in the Dames and Moore 1974 report " Geologic Report Limerick Generating Station, Limerick Pennsylvania," prepared for Philadelphia Electric Company, July,1974 Sincerely, Original sfgned by A. Schwencer, Chief Licensing Branch No. 2 Division of Licensing
