As a result of an investigation procipted by IE lblletin 80-03, all 12 Standby Gas Treatment System (SCTS) charcoal adsorber beds furnished to i
TVO (ei ht to HartsvilleL'and four to Phipps Send) by CTI-Nuclear, S
b.,
Cleveland, Ohio;' vere foUnd to have separatioEs between~the perforated 4
screens and the frames to which the%creens are mounted. These separations were caused-by broken or inadequat'e; spot welds which were the result of excessive cosmetic grinding. This condition violates the
,,pu6 chase specification (C. F. Braun Specification.-165-01) which calls for g.j.
', seal welding and careful inspection" of cbitical joints during and after y
construction. The separations' cot:ld result. in loss o'f charcoal from the bets-End' forr.atf on of bypa'ss, lea',: age paths :through the charcoal beds.
