l Thank you for your letter of October 21, 1981.
We look l
forward to receiving for our review New Mexico's draft agreement package and supporting documents.
We will provide our comments on the submitta-1s as expetlitiously as possible.
Legislation pending before the Congress may limit or pre-clude NRC action to implement the Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act or to exercise authority over mill tailings in Agreement States.
Meanwhile, we will continue to work with New Mexico to amend the current agreement between NRC and the State.
Our staff is prepared to meet with New Mexico officials at the completion of our review if that appears to be necessary.
