UNIT NO. 2 EMERGENCY PLAN IMPLEMENTING PROCEDURE 1054.7 0FF-SITE DOSE PROJECTIONS

1. 0 PURPOSE The purpose of this procedure is to provide a means of perfonaing manual calculations for airborne and liquid mieases from TMI Unit 2.

It includes the capability to detennine projected dose comitments for monitored and unmonitomd airborne releases and downstmam concentrations of radioisotcpes released to the Susquehanna River. The RAC is msponsible for implementing this procedure.

Dose Comitment must be multiplied by the time (in seconds) of exposure to the cloud. This time should generally be equal to the release period, unless other factors, such as wind direction changes, suggest a more reasonble value.

Use these values if isotopic inventory data is unavailable.

NOTE 2:

To obtain total ~ bone dose, add dose contribution from Cs-137 and Sr-90 dose calculation.

7.2 From recorded infonnation or sample analysis determine the activity level (in uCi/:al) of the released liquid:

uC1/ml.

7.3 Obtain the river level by calling the River Forecast Center in Harrisburg at phone number 782-2256 or 782-3488 and record the reading:

ft.

7.4 Find the river flow corresponding to the river level number 7.3 above, in Table 4 and record:

CFS.

7.5 Calculate the average and maximum downstream concentrations of radioactive material as follows:

Maximum uCi/mi x gpm x 2.23 x 10-3 cfs/gpm t cfs =

uCi/m1*

  • NOTE:

If the average or maximum downstream concentration is > 1 x 10-6 uC1/ml, notify downstream users to curtail intake.

Average Calculated as per Steps 9.1 and 9.2 in this procedure.
