3EAVER VALLEY POWER STATION - UNIT NO. 2 1.0
SUMMARY
Review of design calculations for the Auxiliary Building (Category I) of Millstone Power Station - Unit No. 3 revealed that the analytical procedure, used in designing the structural system which transfers horizontal seismic forces down to the mat, was incomplete.
Beaver Valley Power Station - Unit No. 2 had used similar design procedures for the analysis of the following Category I structures:
f Auxiliary Building i
Control Room Extension Valve Pit Service Building Main Steam and Cable Vault Area Fuel and Decontamination Building Safeguards Building Diesel Gerserator Building 2.0 IMMEDIATE ACTION TAKEN l'
A preliminary review of the pertinent design calculations, for the BVPS-2 structures listed above was performed. The initial review indicated that no stractural deficiencies resulted from the analytical prreedure used.
I A subsequent detailed review of the design calculations for i
seismic loads has been completed. The detailed review verifies the results of the preliminary review, i e.,
no structural deficiencies resulted from the analytical procedure in question.
3.0 DESCRIPTION
OF DEFICIENCY The analytical procedurd used to design the st 20 r ur t_1 system for transferring horizontal seismic forces down.Lo the mat, was incomplete. The procedure used did not consider the cumulative effect of overturning moments resulting from horaguntal seismic loads.
The analytical procedure used to design the mat did include the cumulative effect of overturning moments.

e 4.0 ANALYSIS OF SAFETY IMPLICATIONS The Category I structures under consideration contain Category I nuclear safety-related equipment, piping, and instrumentation.
The analytical procedure used, could have resulted in some members of the structural system being stressed beyond code allowables. This condition could have caused damage to the Category I nuclear safety-related equipment.
5.0 CORRECTIVE ACTION TO REMEDY DEFICIENCY The designs of the Category I structures listed above were subjected to a detailed review. Each structure was reanalyzed to obtain the distribution of member forces resulting from the revised cumulation of overturning moments due to seismic loads.
The resultant member stresses were compared to the code allowables to determine adequacy of the design.
This detailed review concluded that no structural deficiencies resulted from the analytical procedure used.
6.0 ADDITIONAL REPORTS This is the final report on this topic.
