Dear Mr. Keppler:

9.N Ni The purpose of this letter is to provide informat't]o C.b y'

c'oncerning the LaSalle County Station Radiation / Chemistry l'

Technicians (RCT) as required by Reference (a).

Specifically, provide auditional RCT training before fuel load and submit a listing of proposed shift assignments and qualification status thirty.(30) days before fuel load.

Additional training has been provided in the form of a training program which commenced July 6, 1981.

This training program coi.sisted of four, one week modules and extended over a period of time to train all RCT's.

The. content of this additional training was in accordance with Section 13.1.3.2 o f the FSAR.

A written test was-administered to the.RCT's following each training module.

In addition, an oral test was given as the final.

An overall 70% was accepted as a passing grade for this training and

.the. final oral test was graded as Excellent, Satisf actory, Marginal, or Unsatisf actory. "

The graded results.of this training.

J. G. Keppler Decembe r 2, 1981 Individuals who achieved a passing grade for this training are considered qualified in accordance with Section 13.1.3.2 of the FSAR.

Because there exists degrees of qualifications, and two indi-viduals who are not qualified, Station management will ensure that a qualified individual is assigned to all backshif ts at the time of fuel load.

This action should also address the NRC concerns of RCT shif t assignments, which are currently being made in accordance with shift preference.
