Dear Mrs. Steinberg:

Enclosed please find an application for a license from the U.S. Army Armament Material Readiness Command to export luminescent light sources containing tritium to a number of countries over a 5-year period.

NRC is forwarding this license application to the Executive Branch agencies for review in response to a telephone request from the Department of State.

The tritium will be incorporated as light sources in gauges and other devices for use in different military equipment.

You will note that most of the contained tritium proposed for export to each country falls within the 10,000 curie limit of the proposed general license pre-viously approved by the Executive Branch.

Before taking action on this license application, we would appreciate your i'

views, in accordance with established procedures and from the overall perspective of the Executive Branch, as to whether the proposed export meets the applicable criteria in the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 as amended by the Nuclear Non-proliferation Act of 1978.
