~ Docket No.: STN 50-482 APPLICANT: Kansas Gas and Electric, Company,,,,,,

FACILITY:

Wolf Creek Generating Station, Unit,fio.1

SUBJECT:

SUfEARY OF CASELOAD FORECAST PAllEL, MEETINGS.,AND SITE VISIT Meetings were held on November 17 and 19,.1981. in Burlington, Kansas with representatives of the applicant to discuss the status of construction for the Wolf Creek facility. A site tour to witness the status of. construction l

was conducted on November 18, 1981.. The meeting' attendees are listed in l

the Enclosure. The meetings are summarized as. follows:

Summary l

The applicant made a detailed presentation, on. the project schedule and on the status of design, procurement, construction..and startup activities.

The activity receiving the most attention currently is the installation l

rate of small bore pipe. The applicant's current schedule, which is based on a critical milestone approach,_ projects.a. fuel load date of Decenicer_1983.

l At the exit meeting we advised the applicant that,. based on (1) the information

~

provided during the previous two days, (2) our observations during the sit,e.

tour, and (3) our assessment of the work remaining as compared.to that of s~

other facilities we have visited, we. projected that the most' lik'ely (or nominal) fuel load date for Wolf Creek is July 1984. The major considerations in this l

assessment were the status and rate of Installation,of,laroe bore pipe hangers, t

conduit, and instruaentation. We then mentioned that we wer2; however, impressed l

with their startup organization.

We stated that our fuel load date, projections are used to plan for our manpower l

requirements for the review of OL applic' tions and to establish schedules and a

priorities for their review. We further stated. that our projection for Wolf

~

Creek is a nominal date which may be bettered and that, i.f installation rates are increased, the applicant's fuel load date might be attainable; therefore, we do not suggest that the applicant revise their construction schedule to reflect our projected date.
