TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY CH ATTANOOGA. TENNESSEE 37401 400 Chestnut Street Tower II December 9, 1981 Mr. R. C. DeYoung, Director Office of Inspection and Enforcement U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

Dear Mr. DeYoung:

In H. G. Parris' letter to V. Stello dated October 13, 1981, we stated that we expected to complete the installation of the fixed siren portion of the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant prompt notification system by December 15, 1981. Construction is underway on this project, however, due to unanticipated problems in the land acquisition program, we do not expect to meet this deadline. We are making a concerted effort to have the system operational by February 1, 1982 and will continue to keep you informed of the status of this item. If you have any questions, please call me at FTS 858-2778.

To the best of my knowledge, I declare that the statements contained herein are complete and true.

Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY
