Final Report of 10CFR50.55(e) Item on Defective ITE Circuit Breakers (#47)
Dear Mr. Keppler:
This is Detroit Edison's final report on the Defective ITE Circuit Breakers.
The problem was originally reported to Mr. J. Smith of NRC-Region III by Detroit Edison's Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor-Construction Quality Assurance, on August 28, 1981.
This item involved 1600 AMP ITE circuit breakers. In order to address IE-Information Notice 80-31 which was written on Gould-Brown Boveri 600 AMP I
breakers, Detroit Edison had implemented a field test procedure requiring the reccanended tests. This test procedure was used to test, not'only the 600 AMP breakers covered in the information notice, but other ITE Gould breakers as well. In testing ITE, 1600 AMP, Type K-1600 S and K-DO-N 1600 a breakers, failures occurred on two breakers similar to the failure described.

Replacement parts which correct the problem have been received on site and are being installed as construction schedules permit. Testing of ITE break-ers for this problem is continuing, however, no further failures have occured.
