Dear Mr. Bournia:

At the request o f Mr. D. Beckham (NRR-PTPB), the following information is provided to document commitments mEde by Commonwealth Edison to Messrs. D. Beckham and R. Walker (IE-RIII) on November 16, 1981.

These commitments concern instrumentation related changes judged to be necessary to implement the LaSalle County " symptom-based" emergency procedures (LGA).

Mr. Beckham requested that this information be forwarded to him through your of fice.

Commonwealth Edison commits on an interim basis to complete the following prior to 10% power on LaSalle Unit 1:

A.

Install one potentiometer in the control room and complete procedures for its use to permit expanding drywell air temperature readout from present 2500F to 5400F Range.

B.

Recalibrate one presently installed 0-135 psig drywell pressure transmitter to increase its range to 150 psig.

C.

Revise proceoures to determine drywell water level using the dif ference between existing 0-60 psig and 0-135 psig located at primary containment elevations 725 ft. and 756 ft. respectively.

Procedures will also give guidance f or estimating drywell water level above 756 ft. from existing trends or estimated input flowrate.

Novernbe r 24,-1981-On a long term basis, Commonwealth Edison intends to install a drywell. level instrument capable of reading out level in the Control Room which covers the full range of primary containment level from 725 f t., the upper tap of the existing suppression pool level sensor, to the elevation of the drywell vent penetration, i

approximately 810 ft. elevation.

The implementation o f this instrument will be ' completed at the first refueling outage after

! receipt o f qualified equipment.
