SUMMARY

OF EQB MEETING A neeting vas held November 10, 1981 in Bethesda, Maryland with representatives fron Commonwealth Edison Company and its consultants to discuss environmental qualification of equipment for the Byron Station. A list of attendees is given in Enclosure 1..

The applicant nade a brief presentation regarding the radiological source tem used in the environnental qualification program. In response, the staff j'

indicated that the applicant should use a tine-dependent plate-out of radiofodine in the containment as given in NUREG.-0588 or justify the use of the assumption of an instantaneous 507, plate-out, of the airborn release. The applicant should also justify:

(1) the use of 30 days as the length of tine asstraed for radiation exposure; (2) the fraction of beta dose considered based on shielding; and (3)

- the assumption that the center of the containment is the high dose point.- Also the applicant shculd address the relative contribution from each source of radia-tion in the containment-the sump water, plate-out, airborn, etc.

The applicant brought a nue:ber of examples of EQ packages for the staff's review and coments. From this initial review, the staff conmented that the femat of the central files was good and that the review check list was thorough, covering all necessary areas. The staff also nace specific recommendations to improve the EQ packages presented. The applicant stated that the complete EQ subnittal would

. be ready be June 1992.
