Dear Ms. Schwencer:

The Department of Archives and History has the responsibility under state law to protect State Archeological Landmarks. Under federal law the department serves as the State Historic Preservation Office. In that capacity we advise federal agencies of their legal i sponsibilities under the National Historic Preservation Act, and comment on the impact of federally assisted or licensed projects on cultural resources.

In order to evaluate the impact of this project on cultural sites, we need to have certain information about the project. Please complete the enclosed form and return to us with a map indicating the prcject's location in relation to major landmarks of the area (highways, rivers, lakes, etc.). We will issue our comments soon after receiving this j information.

Sincerely, ELBERT R. HILLIARD l State Historic Preservation Officer
