Identification: Baergency diesel fuel pump fcilure.

5 Conditions Prior to Occurrence: Unit at steady load.

6. Des:ription of occurrence: ne diesel unit exhibited a icnger cranHng characteristic during starting for the weekly. test on May 30 and was scheduled rer additional starting on May 31. It startad in 5 seeceda of the 4th cycle at 08ko and was shut devn by the operator. It was started again at 0900 in 3 seconda of the 1st cycle but the unit stopped operating at 0903. Investiga-tion revealed that the fuel oil supply day tack vsa empty. The integral fuel trsnsfer pv=p vas inspected and a key on the shaft was found to be deteriorated. A new key was fabricated and in-stalled and the diesel was +ert operated and declered in service at 10k9 hours.

Analysis of Occurrence: The unit van heing tested with the plant j

j at t,te dy-state power level and with all other station am and d-c 4

power sources in normal service. Thus, we feel that no undue t

hazard was inposed on the facility by this failure.

Corrective Acti:n: The fuel p.m:p vas repaired and the unit i

S tested satisfactorily in less than two hours' tice. The Plant 4

Review Cormittee revieved the failure and concluded that:
