Gentlemen:
By letter dated July 1,1981, R. C. Youngdahl of Consumers Power (reference (a)) transmitted the Interim Data Report for the EPRI PWR Safety Relief Valve Test Program. This report summarizes the test data collected to date on relief valves (safety valve data is still not available).
Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant has a Dresser Model 31533VX-30 relief valve rnd Dresser Model 31739A safety valves. Results provided in section h.1 of the EPRI Interim Data Report are applicable to our plant. Our preliminary evaluation of the data indicates that our valves will perform their intended function. BG&E vill submit final evaluations on a schedule consistent with the R. C. Youngdahl letter of December 15, 1980 and modified on July 1,1981.
Our position on block valves is that a test progran for block valve qualification is not required since isolation of a stuck-open PORV is not required to ensure safe chutdown.
